For many arable farmers oilseed rape is the major break crop in cereal rotations. Good returns plus rotational benefits are the main reasons for the crops popularity.

However, it is timely to re-evaluate its role as CAP reforms take effect. The oil and meal already have many uses, and HGCA-funded research has identified even more potential uses. Some promising developments have already taken place and many new ones are possible.
