Oilseed Rape - A Growers Guide

g23For many arable farmers oilseed rape is the major break crop in cereal rotations. Good returns plus rotational benefits are the main reasons for the crops popularity.

However, it is timely to re-evaluate its role as CAP reforms take effect. The oil and meal already have many uses, and HGCA-funded research has identified even more potential uses. Some promising developments have already taken place and many new ones are possible.

This is a crop with many opportunities. It is encouraging to learn that some 20,000ha of HEAR and other specialist oilseed rape varieties are being grown on contract. We are also optimistic about initiatives in the areas of biofuels and bio-friendly products.

This guide is intended to provide a valuable source of information to help you plan, grow, market and promote the crop successfully in the current changing world.
