This it the last of a series of three workshops providing updates on the management of barley, wheat and oilseed rape. Experts will discuss what's new for 2010, covering all aspects of agronomy from soil management and variety choice to the management of weeds and diseases. Changes in legislation and climate bring with them new problems and opportunities. The workshops will also look ahead to discuss these new topical issues and to identify new priorities.

HGCA and PGRO Oilseeds and Pulses Conference
Thursday 28 January 2010 - The Peterborough and Cambridge Suites, East of England Showground, Peterborough

For both growers and the supply chain, the day will cover a range of topics from the current market dynamics through to more long term issues such as changing market forces and consumption patterns. The afternoon session will be dedicated to pest control and disease forecasting in oilseed and pulse crops, with presentations from PGRO, Rothamsted Research and ADAS.

HGCA Agronomy Workshops 2010 

The aim of this new series of Agronomy Workshops is to arm you with a 'toolbox' of information to help you tackle the season ahead. Workshops will feature presentations on:

. Disease management (including new information on Rhynchosporium and Ramularia)
. Spring pest management and how to optimise pesticide application
. Explanation of the new HGCA Nitrogen Guidelines
. How to gain the most benefit from the HGCA Fusarium Mycotoxins risk assessment tool

The workshops will take place on the following dates:

9th February - Grantham
10th February - Newmarket
17th February - Newbury

HGCA and MAGB Malting Barley Workshops

These half-day workshop are run in association with MAGB and are free to levy payers. They are essential to attend for any malting barley grower after the challenging market conditions seen in 2009, and the likelihood of continued price volatility next season as well as the reform of the intervention system.

The workshops will take place on the following dates:

11th February - Edinburgh
16th February - Bury St Edmunds
17th February - Beverley

HGCA Milling Wheat Conference
Thursday 25th February 2010 - Wellcome Trust Conference Centre, Hinxton, Cambridgeshire

In association with nabim, this year's HGCA Milling Wheat Conference will offer growers an insight into the broad market drivers for the sector and their potential impact on farm.

The speaker panel will cover:
- The global and regional market outlooks for milling wheat
- Consumer trends and purchasing habits
- Breeding issues for new milling wheat varieties
- Better management of nitrogen on farm
- An update on food safety legislation

The afternoon session will include a short workshop for growers on price risk management and understanding grain markets.

The Dundee Conference - Environmental Management and Crop Protection CPNB 2010

The 2-day conference will be held on 23rd and 24th February 2010 at the West Park Conference Centre Dundee.

New Publications
Cereal growth stages - a guide for crop treatments

The aim of the Cereal growth stages key is to help raise the knowledge of sprayer operators regarding T0-T3 spray timings and the associated growth stages. This new guide is a two-sided sheet of A4 (folded twice to 1/3 A4), with durable surface suitable for field use.

Nitrogen for winter wheat - management guidelines

While other documents deal with all nutrients for all crops, these HGCA guidelines provide more detail on N - the most important nutrient - on the most extensive UK crop, wheat. The aim is to give UK wheat growers comprehensive guidance on using N, whether as fertiliser or organic manure.
