Alchemy

Variety notes - Winter wheat
« Back

  • Alchemy is a high-yielding soft-milling Group 4 feed wheat variety which remains very popular, taking around 17% of the provisional 2007 certified seed production.

  • Has performed well in a range of sowing dates and soil types.

  •  Provisionally classified as uks soft wheat for export. Low W means it is only suitable for blending into uks export cargoes.

  • Rated as "moderate" for distilling.

  • A slow developing variety, useful for early drilling.

  • Good resistance to yellow rust and Septoria nodorum and above average resistance to mildew.

  • One of a group of varieties - Alchemy, Claire, Deben, Istabraq and Zebedee -which are now moderately susceptible to a race of brown rust that has become widespread.

  • Very high untreated yield.

  • Breeder/ UK Agent: Nickerson (www.nickersonseeds.co.uk ).
