Appaloosa is a specific recommendation for the North East region.
-
It is fully approved by the IBD for the production of malt for distilling. It provides malt of good quality for malt whisky distilling but has been slow to become widely used.
-
In the North East region it is a high-yielding with treated yields in trials 3% higher than Oxbridge.
-
It has good resistance to brackling.
-
It has good resistance to mildew and yellow rust but is susceptible to Rhynchosporium.
