Zircon

Variety notes - Spring and Autumn Wheat
« Back
  • Zircon is a white-grained variety specifically recommended for the production of white-grain for specialist markets.

  • Not yet classified by nabim .

  • In late autumn sown trials its yields are competitive; around 1% above Tybalt and 1% below the winter wheat Einstein and little lodging has been recorded in trials treated with PGR.

  • In spring sown trials its yields have been around 4% lower than Tybalt and slightly more lodging has been recorded.

  • It has good resistance to mildew and yellow rust and above average resistance to brown rust.

  • Gives good protein content.

  • White-grained wheats are often prone to sprouting in the ear with a resulting loss of Hagberg. Eearly indications suggest that Zircon has a sprouting resistance similar to Glasgow. It is important that the variety is given priority at harvest to reduce the sprouting risk.

  • Breeder/ UK Agent: KWS UK Ltd (www.kws.de/ca/fh/tgy/uk ).
