Variety notes - Winter Barley

  • Cassata is a specific recommendation for growers wanting a variety with malting potential and resistance to barley mosaic virus.
  • Fully approved by IBD for the production of malt for brewing.  Cassata produces malt of a similar quality to Pearl.
  • Treated yield 2% above Pearl.
  • Good lodging resistance.
  • Moderately late maturing.
  • Good resistance to Rhynchosporium , moderately good resistant to brown rust but susceptible to mildew and very susceptible to yellow rust.
  • Resistant to the common strains of barley mosaic viruses (BaYMV strain 1 and BaMMV).
