Battalion

Variety notes - Winter wheat
« Back
  • Battalion is a high yielding nabim Group 2 variety.

  • nabim report that this is a variety which exhibits a weak crumb structure in loaves and there are weaknesses in the gluten. It is unlikely to be a preferred variety amongst those in Group 2.

  •  Classified as provisional ukp bread wheat but likely to be suited only for blending into ukp export cargoes.

  • Has a similar treated yield potential to Einstein.

  • Very high untreated yield.

  • It has performed very well in second wheat trials.

  • Seems suited to a wide range of sowing dates. It tends to develop slowly from very early September sowing and yet (based on limited data) it performs well when sown late.

  • Good resistance to yellow rust and brown rust and limited data suggests good resistance to Septoria nodorum. Above average resistance to mildew.

  • It is believed to carry the Rendezvous eyespot resistance gene but only has a RL rating of 6 for eyespot.

  • Breeder/ UK Agent: RAGT seeds Ltd (www.ragt.co.uk ).
