Timber

Variety notes - Winter wheat
« Back

  • Timber is a Group 4 feed variety with a specific recommendation for growers wanting good disease resistance.

  • It has good resistance to yellow rust, brown rust and Septoria nodorum. It is one of only three varieties on the List rated '7' for Septoria tritici.

  • Tests by the United Kingdom Cereal Pathogen Virulence Survey (UKCPVS) have shown the presence of a race of yellow rust which can infect the variety but so far it maintains a good level of adult plant resistance and no natural infection has so far been recorded in RL trials.

  •  Classified as provisional ukp bread wheat but likely to be suited only for blending into ukp export cargoes due to low W scores.

  • Very high untreated yield.

  • Tends to be fast developing from early September sowings so may not be best suited to that slot.

  • Relatively low-yielding in the North region which may be linked to grain infertility problems, which were recorded at two sites in Scotland in 2007.

  • Breeder/ UK Agent: Saaten Union UK Ltd (www.saaten-union.co.uk ).
