In recent years chlorothalonil has shown itself to be an invaluable component of any wheat fungicide programme – and could be used on virtually all varieties (Alchemy probably being the only exception). Its protectant activity against S. tritici is exceptional, being as good or better than even the best azole fungicides. It has a key role in T0 and T1 spray timings, where it has established itself in the industry but it also can be very effective as an addition to the flag-leaf spray, prolonging the protection of the most important leaf layer.
