Prochloraz role

Role of prochloraz.

In ADAS experiments it has been shown that treating a S. tritici population with prochloraz results in the remaining population carrying a lower percentage of the I381V mutation.  This suggests that the remaining population might then be more sensitive to other azoles, opening up the possibility of using prochloraz as an early treatment to ‘sensitise’ the S. tritici population or to use it in mixture to improve the performance of the partner azole.  Although both options are very interesting and potentially very exciting the strategies need to be tested in controlled experiments to see if they really can work.  Prochloraz in itself is not a very strong septoria fungicide (see below) so shouldn’t be used to substitute for more active fungicides.
