Weather conditions, disease and mechanical damage during harvest and post harvest handling can result in broken grains, lost embryos, burnt grains/heat damage, splitting and skinning. As well as physical damage, moulds, bunt infected grain and ergot may be present. Grain may also be damaged by insects or contain rodent droppings.
