Malacca

Variety notes - Winter wheat
« Back

  • Malacca is a nabim Group 1 variety that has been supplanted by Solstice as the most popular Group 1 wheat and now accounts for less than 1% of certified seed weights in 2007.

  • Outclassed in terms of yield and requires a premium payment to make it economic.

  • nabim report that this variety has shown good breadmaking performance in recent years. It is liked by all millers, although endosperm colour is slightly more yellow than desirable. In recent seasons there has been a tendency to lower specific weights.

  •  Classified as ukp bread wheat. Has support from end users but is suitable only for blending into ukp export cargoes.

  • Malacca has the ability to deliver high Hagberg falling numbers but has a rather low specific weight.

  • Good resistance to yellow rust.

  • No longer grown in RL trials.

  • Breeder/ UK Agent: KWS UK Ltd (www.kws.de/ca/fh/tgy/uk ).
