Xi19

Variety notes - Winter wheat
« Back
  • Xi19 is a high yielding nabim Group 1 variety specifically recommended for the East region, where it yields around 4% higher than Solstice.

  • nabim reports that this variety has performed consistently in breadmaking tests.  Because of its tendency to produce lower protein content at higher yield, correct agronomic management will be important.  Low protein consignments are unlikely to be accepted by all millers.

  • On average Xi 19 has given protein contents 0.5% below Solstice and requires additional nitrogen fertiliser to reach the same protein content.

  •  Classified as ukp bread wheat. Meets the specifications of the export brand and has support from end-users.

  • It has a relatively low specific weight.

  • Has long weak straw and will require PGR in many situations. The lodging risk can be reduced by using lower seed rates, later sowing and avoiding early nitrogen applications, especially where crops are forward or have high tiller numbers.

  • Good resistance to yellow rust but susceptible to eyespot. Above average resistance to mildew.

  • A fast developing variety when sown very early but has a slower rate of development from later sowings.

  • Relatively high yielding when late sown.

  • Breeder/ UK Agent: Nickerson (www.nickersonseeds.co.uk ).
