HGCA Activities

HGCA is helping to highlight the need for a reduction in duplicate testing by providing tools to improve grain sampling techniques and funding research on this topic.

Grain Sampling and Analysis Project (GSAP)

HGCA has conducted a variety of projects to improve on-farm sampling procedures. In the third phase of the GSAP project (GSAP III    (557kb)), which is currently being completed, HGCA is conducting research into a system whereby grain sampling is carried out once, by the farmer rather than by numerous different grain merchants, before being sent off to an independent laboratory for assessment. Results providing quality information upon which prices are set will then be available, through HGCA, online to growers who may then provide access to merchants. To find out more about this and previous GSAP projects click here.

Grain Sampling and Storage Tools

Other tools developed by HGCA include the Safe Storage Time Calculator which aims to help growers keep on top of drying and cooling at harvest to protect the quality and safety of their grain in store. By entering data about their stored grain, growers can see where grain needs urgent attention. Also available is the Grain Moisture Calculator, the Wheat Grain Analyst CD and the Barley Grain Analyst CD.
