Most of the research within the dunnhumby Academy is conducted by full-time PhD students, dedicated exclusively to the analysis of the products within distinct sectors and funded by the relevant trade organisation. Students are based at KBS but spend time with the sponsoring organisation and dunnhumby.
HGCA currently sponsor Claire Garcia who is now in her second year of her PhD. As well as carrying out research for her PhD, Claire also runs, presents and analyses dunnhumby data on behalf of the HGCA. She says, "I chose to enroll in this PhD because the dunnhumby Academy of Consumer Research provides a fantastic environment for PhD students who are interested by the academic field but also who may still be thinking of consultancy career in the cereal industry. Working in parallel with the Home Grown Cereal Authority gives me the opportunity to expand my network of contacts with companies and marketing managers but also to improve my knowledge about cereal products".
Claire's PhD title is, "The role of involvement in the attention paid by supermarket shoppers to eco-labelled products". We are certain, that in light of the current environmental concerns, Claire's PhD will provide us with valuable insights. A summary of Claire's PhD proposal can be downloaded here. PhD summary (35kb)
