RD-2004-3116 Breeding oilseed rape with a low requirement for nitrogen fertiliser (SAPPIO 00323) [LK 0979]
This project aims to improve the viability of UK oilseed rape for biodiesel and food production by reducing green house gas emissions, nitrate leaching and financial costs associated with growing the crop.
RD-2004-3137 Managing uncropped land in order to enhance biodiversity benefits of the arable farmed landscape. (SAPPIO 0300).
The overall aim is to demonstrate that management of uncropped land for biodiversity on conventional arable farms can achieve significant and measurable increases in biodiversity, that are equivalent to or greater than those attained on organic farms with a primarily arable cropping system.
RD-2005-3167 Development and evaluation of low–phytate wheat germplasm to reduce diffuse phosphate pollution from pig and poultry production units (SAPPIO00311) [LINK 0973a]
The purpose of this project is to reduce diffuse phosphate pollution through the production of new improved wheat lines.
RD-2007-3356 Reducing the carbon footprint of the lubricants industry by the substitution of mineral oil with rapeseed oil (LK0843)
To investigate methods of reducing the oil PUFA content in oilseed rape varieties without substantially reducing cold tolerance and yield. Use this knowledge to develop a closed supply chain to extensively substitute fossil-derived oil for the lubricants industry.
