These ongoing projects relate to the work that HGCA has commissioned in relation to climate change.

RD-2005-3233 Improving water use efficiency and drought tolerance in UK winter wheats
This project proposes to address breeders' short/medium term pre-competitive needs by providing the means for selection for water use efficiency (WUE) and drought tolerance.

RD-2005-3214 Adapting wheat to global warming (LK0992)
This project aims to identify, source and characterise traits that will enable plant breeders to adapt UK wheat germplasm to earlier and more frequently stressed production conditions arising through global warming.

RD-2007-3399 Challenges from climate change for disease management in sustainable arable systems
This project aims to inform industry practice and government policy on likely effects of climate change on the severity of disease epidemics in UK arable farming systems.

RD-2009-3624 Exploiting resource use efficiency and resilience in ancient wheat species (PhD) 
To evaluate the resource use efficiency of spelt, einkorn and emmer to identify new sources of variation for modern wheat varieties.
