These ongoing projects relate to the work that HGCA has commissioned in relation to cereal and oilseed weed control.
Click on the titles for an upshot of the problem to be addressed, the aims, the approach and the benefits to the industry. Also will be attached the latest information in the form of Annual Project Reports (APRs) or Interim Reports.
Cereals
RD-2006-3336 Dormancy in grass weeds
The project aims to provide annual information on black-grass and other grass weed dormancy to the industry, Identify the relationship between black-grass dormancy and emergence, and provide more cost effective prediction of effective herbicide strategies.
RD-2006-3341 New strategies to autumn grass weed control in cereals and oilseed rape
To develop strategies for the use of remaining selective herbicides to maintain effective control of black-grass and sterile brome without increasing dependence on products for which concerns over resistance or detection in water already exist.
RD-2007-3402 Proof of concept: automated mapping of weeds in arable fields
Project aims to develop and evaluate the concept of an automated machine vision system to identify selected weeds and map their locations in arable fields.
Oilseeds
RD-2008-3605 New approaches to weed control in oilseed rape
Project aims to evaluate new approaches to weed control in winter oilseed rape that use carefully-directed control methods between crop rows to minimise reliance on commonly-used selective residual herbicides.
RD-2009-3652 Improving oilseed rape crops for effective weed control
Project aims to determine the optimum row spacing and plant population within the rows to balance the needs of crop performance with those of weed control.
Malting Barley and Milling Wheat Breakfasts in your area
HGCA, in association with MAGB and nabim, is running a series of regional events specifically covering malting barley and milling wheat production.
