Variety notes - Winter wheat
« Back
  • Einstein is a high yielding nabim Group 2 variety.

  • nabim reports that Einstein is used by most millers as a constituent part of bread-making grists. However, with a tendency to produce lower protein content at higher yields and with a lower water absorption, only restricted proportions of this variety can be used in millers grists.

  •  Classified as ukp bread wheat and has support from end users. Low W means it is only suitable for blending into ukp export cargoes.

  • Very popular: accounting for around 13% of harvest 2007 seed certifications.

  • Treated yield is comparable to varieties such as Robigus.

  • Yields relatively well as a second wheat.

  • Has adequate resistance to stem lodging but can be prone to the relatively less common root lodging, which was a problem for some growers in 2007.

  • Rather susceptible to brown rust but otherwise has no major disease weakness and has above average resistance to Fusarium ear blight.

  • Breeder/ UK Agent: Nickerson (www.nickersonseeds.co.uk).
