Variety notes - Spring and A utumn Wheat

  • Paragon remains a very popular variety because of its high quality.

  • It is the only recommended nabim Group 1 spring wheat and nabim report that its performance in breadmaking tests has been excellent.

  • In late autumn sown trials it has given yields around 11% below Xi19 but protein content has been 1.3% higher and specific weight has been 3.5% higher.

  • From late autumn sowings it is taller than the winter wheat Xi19 and is similar for lodging.

  • In spring-sown trials it has given yields around 15% below Tybalt but with 1.1% higher protein content and slightly better specific weight.

  • Paragon has good resistance to yellow rust and brown rust.
