Alex Waugh Alex is the Director General of UK flour millers association, nabim and has worked in the flour milling sector for more than 20 years. He is also Director of the UK Rice Association and Vice President of Euromaisiers. He has served on a number of industry bodies including the Committee of Assured Crops and the Council of independent food research association Campden-BRI. |

Andrew Brown Andrew Brown, a Chartered Environmentalist, runs a 250 ha mixed farm in Rutland,including arable rotations comprising wheat,rape and beans in Higher Level Stewardship. A keen advocate of combining environmental sustainability with on-farm profitability, hehas won several awards for conservation. He is also NFU East Midlands Chairman. |

Cath Clelland Cath, who lives in North Yorkshire, started her career in finance in the construction industry. She later moved to Yorkshire Tyne Tees Television where she became Finance Director for the programme making division. From there she moved to Leeds Bradford International Airport as Finance and Commercial Director. She is currently involved in housing, SME food and beverage production, health and social inclusion and hospitality and leisure services.

Charles Matts Charles farms in a family partnership on 630 acres in Northamptonshire, mainly growing arable crops alongside sheep on a permanent pasture. He is managing director of the Brixworth Farming Company (BFC), a farm management company responsible for 6500 acres of combinable crops and founder of the Joint Venture Farming Group. Charles is Chairman of the NFU Mutual Midlands Regional Advisory Board and a member of the Agricultural Land Tribunal. |

David Houghton David farms 900 acres of mainly arable land in Easter Ross in the North of Scotland. The farm specialises in growing malting barley and wheat for the distilling industry, marketing most crops through Highland Grain Ltd, of which he is a former Chairman. He is also a former Chairman of the Scottish Quality Cereals and the NFU Scotland Combinable Crops Committee. |

George Lawrie George grows spring barley for seed in partnership with his brother on their family farm in Kinross, Perthshire. He has worked extensively with the NFUS, where he is treasurer, past chair of the Land Use and Environment Committee and also represents NFUS on HGCA’s Research and Knowledge Transfer Committee. He is chairman of Scottish Agronomy, a co-op based in East Scotland that provides trials and advice to members, who farm around 50,000 hectares of cereals and potatoes. |

Guy Smith Guy farms 450 hectares of combinable crops on the north east Essex coast growing mainly milling wheat and malting barley, with an additional 50 hectares in various environmental schemes. He also sits on the Board of the NFU, Crop Evaluation Ltd and is a Director of Tendring Hundred Farmers Club. |

John Cunningham John Cunningham manages the purchasing and commodity trading desk for J Thompson the Belfast based animal feed compounder. He has over 15 years experience purchasing over 750k tonnes pa over 15 commodities including the organic sector. He has a wealth of experience gained through close working relationships of integrated poultry business, pig, dairy and beef production systems. In addition he manages fertiliser trading for his company, ex Chair of Ulster Arable Society and has served on various grain committees for the NIGTA. |

Michael Hambly Michael farms 400 acres in a family partnership producing cereals, oilseed rape and beef. He is a qualified agronomist and lead the Grain Division of Cornwall Farmers. He is a founding member, past Chairman and Director of Kernow Grain. He represents Cornwall NFU and is Vice Chairman of the NFU SW Regional Arable Board and is Chairman of the TAG Technical committee for Cornwall. |

Paul Temple Paul farms 312 hectares in partnership on the East Yorkshire Wolds, producing cereals for seed, oilseed rape, vegetables and beef. The farm has participated in the GM Field Scale Evaluation trials and is part of the Higher Level Stewardship scheme. Paul is a past Vice President for the NFU, chairman of the COPA COGECA Cereals, Oilseeds & Protein Group and founder of the European Biotech Forum. He currently sits on the National Non Food Crops Centre Board. |

Richard Whitlock Richard Whitlock spent a 35-year career in grain trading at Frontier Agriculture, Banks Cargill and Sidney Banks before setting up as a grain and biofuels consultant in 2010. He is a regular speaker at industry-related events, represents the UK grain trade on parliamentary and EU groups and is also the Chairman of AIC’s grain trade assurance scheme TASCC. |

Robert Lasseter Robert farms 160 hectares in Dorset, running a four-year rotation of winter wheat, spring barley, winter barley and oilseed rape as well as breeding Freedom Food finished pigs. He is a Nuffield scholar and is actively involved with the NFU, where he currently sits on the national crops board and has previously served as regional board chairman and on the governance board. He is a non-executive director at Wessex Grain. |
Blog - April drilling disrupted by snow but Aberdeenshire crops still look as good as anywhere
We started planting spring cereals on a fine day in April and by the following day it was a white, despite the early challenges we progressed well even getting in a field on a neighbour’s farm we contract for that had been in potatoes last year.
