Calls for expressions of interest

To help us address the research priorities outlined in the R&D strategy HGCA will from time to time issue specific calls for expressions of interest. Concept notes will be invited with advice given on scope, structure, funding and deadlines.

Current calls

Call for Expressions of Interest: Weed Management
HGCA is inviting forward Expressions of Interest (EoIs) for new projects to provide growers and agronomists with practical information on control of major weeds. This should be approached using a combination of chemical and cultural methods, including spring cropping and fallowing, and taking into account resistance management. The project will ultimately increase yield, improve quality, increase business profitability and protect the environment. HGCA has set aside a maximum budget of £300,000 over three years for this activity. Full details of the call can be found in the pdf below. All relevant application forms can be found at the bottom of this page.

Call for Full Proposals: United Kingdom Cereal Pathogen Virulence Survey (UKCPVS)

HGCA and Fera (with funding from Defra) are currently looking for a contractor to continue research and development of the UKCPVS project over the next 4 years (1 April 2012 to 31 March 2016), commencing with isolate collection in April 2012 and then establishing relevant field plots for autumn sown crops in September 2012.  The UK Cereal Pathogen Virulence Survey (UKCPVS) was set up in 1967 in response to an unexpected epidemic of yellow rust in the popular and previously resistant wheat variety Rothwell Perdix.  The formation of the UKCPVS was in recognition of the urgent need to detect new pathogen races at an early stage, before widespread epidemics can establish. Early detection of changes in pathogen virulence remains the central aim of the UKCPVS.

Interested contractors should contact Ashleigh Hurrell - procurement@ahdb.org.uk to receive the full tender document and relevant proposal forms.  Deadline for tender submissions is 5pm 27 February 2012.
