Westminster

Variety notes - Spring Barley
« Back
  • Westminster is a malting variety with full approval by IBD for the production of malt for brewing.  It is showing considerable popularity in England and provides good quality malt for brewing use with high extract potential.

  • It has a treated yield potential around 3% below NFC Tipple but with better specific weights.

  • It is a medium-tall variety.

  • Good resistance to mildew and Rhynchosporium but somewhat susceptible to brown rust.

  • Also widely grown as a feed variety due to its combination of longer than average straw and good disease characteristics.

  • Breeder/ UK Agent: Nickerson (www.nickersonseeds.co.uk).
