With Farmhouse Breakfast Week underway a recent online HGCA poll has revealed that growers and other members of the farming industry need no persuasion to embrace the idea that a hearty breakfast is the best way to start the day.
Just one in ten of those polled said they did not eat breakfast every day, compared to the one in four UK adults who skip breakfast on a regular basis. In addition, 83 per cent of those who did eat breakfast dined at the table, with the remainder eating at their desks or out and about.
Quick and traditional fare topped the list of everyday breakfasts with three quarters opting for cereals, porridge or toast, though 14% ate a variation on a cooked breakfast. But it seems the first meal of the day is also the perfect opportunity to prepare for the working day ahead - 85 per cent of those surveyed multitasked at breakfast with 37% reading a newspaper or magazine, a quarter online checking emails or surfing the net and one in 10 working.
Events are being held around the country to celebrate Farmhouse Breakfast Week, January 22-28. Go to www.shakeupyourwakeup.com for more information.
