Farm-saved seed - FAQs
This season’s difficult weather conditions have brought short-term issues of seed quality and availability into sharp focus for many growers. The problems experienced this year have prompted a number of questions from growers about the regulatory position on seed use and supply.
In response, BSPB and AIC have joined forces to produce a user-friendly guide to the most frequently asked questions on the use of certified and farm-saved seed.

Running the Recommended Lists
Each year HGCA invests around 13% of its total levy income to assessing varieties for the HGCA Recommended Lists.
HGCA Recommended Lists are run through a collaborative project in partnership with BSPB, nabim and MAGB.
The HGCA Recommended lists are managed by dedicated members of the HGCA Research and Knowledge Transfer team.
Acknowledgements
Organisations from across the whole industry are involved in producing the HGCA Recommended Lists.
Acknowledgement is also made of the contribution of DEFRA and plant breeders through their payments for National List trials and tests, and to BSPB members for significant additional data made available from their co-ordinated trial series.

RL Plus holds data from over 2,000 trials and allows comparisons between varieties for more than a dozen characteristics.
RL Plus has been updated with the interactive HGCA Recommended Lists for 2012/13 and now includes 2011 Harvest data.
