Environment
Farmers play an important role in caring for and protecting the Environment. HGCA supports farmers with research and information about sustainable farm practices.
The Farming Futures project communicates the impacts and opportunities of climate change. HGCA's participation is co-ordinated through the Agriculture and Horticulture Research Forum. www.farmingfutures.org.uk
HGCA is a partner in this first European carbon labelling initiative which will help in meeting greenhouse gas reduction and biofuel targets of the European Union, reduce petroleum dependence and help to combat climate change.
Sustainable land management
Management options chosen by growers impact not only on the crop but on the surrounding environment, wildlife and landscape. HGCA is committed to helping farmers comply with legislation, benefit from environmental stewardship opportunities and play a vital part in minimising impacts on the Environment.
Biodiversity is a key component of sustainable land management.
On-farm management can significantly enhance biodiversity
and help increase the number of farmland birds, mammals, beneficial insects, butterflies, amphibians and wildflowers. HGCA is committed to helping farmers achieve this whilst maintaining economically sustainable production. Link to biodiversity section of our website
