Fusarium diseases of wheat

Causal organism - Fusarium spp.
Primarily: F. avenaceum, F. culmorum, F. graminearum, Microdochium nivale, F. poae

Cultural control

Rotation may help to reduce overwintering inoculum although the soil-borne phase of the disease is of relatively minor importance.

Chemical control

Chemical control measures against stem-base Fusarium are rarely specifically needed in the growing crop. Some fungicides applied for the control of other diseases (eg prothioconazole or boscalid) can reduce the level of Fusarium in a crop. Controlling the symptoms of Fusarium in a crop may not result in any yield response. The main disease threat is from infected seed. Hence, seed treatment is the main method of controlling the seedling blight phase of the disease.
