What BCE does

In the UK, cereal farmers, traders and processors fund the HGCA to provide service to the cereals industry.

These services include market information, promotion of exports, cereal production development and the funding of research and development.

BCE

BCE is part of HGCA promoting exports of UK cereals as whole grain. Its activities are guided by a committee of growers and traders.

BCE provides a link between overseas customers and the cereals sector, supplyinh independent information on the UK cereal industry.

How BCE can help you - the potential buyer

  1. Information about the size and quality of the British crop
    Independent facts and figures about each year’s harvest of wheat, barley and oats. Ask to be added to our list for our regular updates in your own language, or simply telephone, fax or email BCE for the information you require.
  2. Annual presentations on the British harvest in your country
    These are held in the major markets for UK grain usually at more than one location. Ask BCE to add you to its invitation list.
  3. Explaining your requirements to British growers and traders
    Each year, BCE visits bourses, mills, maltings, breweries and traders in at least six countries to discover the specifications you require and the tests you use. Our delegations include growers, quality experts, and export traders.
  4. Supplying samples of British grain for testing
    BCE can send you representative samples of varieties grown in the UK to test in your own laboratory. Ask BCE for the samples you require.
  5. Your quality test – applied to British wheat
    Each season, hundreds of samples are tested using methods including the Chopin Alveograph test and continental baking tests. Contact BCE for the results.
  6. Suggesting itineraries for your visits to the UK
    BCE has contracts throughout the industry, from plant breeders to ports. We can help you make appointments or even arrange the whole itinerary for larger groups.
