Economic importance

Yield loss from sclerotinia has been estimated from fungicide experiments where the disease has been controlled. Affected plants show a 50% yield loss.

In crops:

• 10% plants affected = 5% yield loss
• 20% plants affected =10% yield loss

Taking into consideration the cost of applications and some wheeling damage, at least 10% infection is required to produce direct benefits from a fungicide spray
