Between June 2003 and July 2004, 23 workshops were held as part of HGCA’s soil2crop initiative. The events were attended by over 1,100 growers, with over 90% claiming that the information on soil management and matching cultivation methods to soil type, would directly help their businesses. Details of the agronomy issues covered by soil2crop can be found under `Workshop subjects’.

Further information can also be found in the following publications:

(1) ‘Soil management for sustainable profit’ provides growers and agronomists with information on good soil structure and its influence on choice of cultivation.

(2) A summary publication – ‘Soil and Crop Management Issues’, produced as a supplement in Crops Magazine, and jointly funded by HGCA and the British Potato Council.
Copies of these publications can be downloaded from the `Library’ section.

Good crop establishment is the key to realising a crops potential and HGCA will continue helping growers achieve this through its new initiaitive, “sow2succeed”. The focus will be on exploring the agronomic and financial implications of altering the date of drilling, within the context of whole farm planning and risk management. Further details of “sow2succeed” can be found at www.hgca.com/sow2succeed.
