Overview
What was sow2succeed?
HGCA's very successful 'soil2crop' initiative finished in July 2004. Over 1,500 growers attended 23 UK-wide meetings and over 90% said that the information on soil management and matching cultivation methods to soil type would directly help their businesses.
In December 2004, HGCA is launched a new initiative, sow2succeed, that aimed to help growers explore the wide range of agronomic and financial implications associated with date of drilling, all within the context of whole farm planning and risk management.
The sow2succeed initiative was run in partnership with agronomy and research organizations to ensure the information you received was timely, relevant and independent.
Why did HGCA fund sow2succeed?
‘sow2succeed’ built on the key information from 'soil2crop' and followed the same successful format: timely, topical and regional information delivered through a series of interactive meetings with specialists on hand to answer questions.
The Key message was:
Good establishment is the key to realising a crops potential; variety choice, seed number and managing growth, insect pests, diseases and weeds all play a part and interact with sowing date. Errors at this stage will stay with you all season and hit your pocket hard. |
