Background

RL Plus is a web-based system developed for HGCA by a consortium consisting of:

• Biomathematics & Statistics Scotland
• NIAB
• British Society of Plant Breeders
• ADAS
• Rothamsted Research
• SAC
• Department of Agriculture & Rural Development, Northern Ireland
• University of Nottingham

RL Plus allows you to access and analyse information from crop variety performance trials conducted in the UK over the past 10 years. It includes data from trials carried out by, or on behalf of, several organisations, including :

• HGCA
• UK National List Authorities (DEFRA, SEERAD, DARD and ARAD)
• British Society of Plant Breeders
• NIAB
• ADAS
• SAC
• The Arable Group (TAG)
• Frontier Agriculture
• Queen's University of Belfast
• Scottish Agronomy
• Suffolk and Cambridge Arable Crop Station
• Trials Force Ltd

RL Plus helps the UK cereals and oilseeds industry to choose varieties which best suit their needs, farming systems and location.

Data can be accessed from more than 2,000 trials and comparisons can be drawn between varieties for more than a dozen characteristics.

How it Works

The data can be explored at one of three levels of detail:

• varieties can be ordered on the basis of their UK average performance, according to the relative user-defined priorities of specified characteristics.
• by selecting the likely conditions where a crop will be grown RL Plus estimates how a variety's performance may depart from national or regional estimates;
• in individual trials data you can explore how varieties have performed relative to each other.
