Eductational activities
HGCA, alongside the other Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board divisions, offers a range of advice, information and free resources to help farmers get involved in education and help the next generation to understand food and farming.
Getting started
Many farmers are passionate about educating youngsters on where food comes from and how it is produced – but where to start? The following tips, links and resources will help:
- HGCA is a partner of FACE (Farming and Countryside Education) which hosts a wide range of resources for farmers to use in talking about food production and agriculture.
- If you are thinking about opening your gates to school parties then find out more by going to visitmyfarm.org
- Accessibility, safety and hygiene should be taken into account if you are considering hosting school visits. More information is available on the following video – Open your farm, produced by DairyCo.
- HGCA and the other AHDB sectors sponsor Open Farm Sunday which is a great way to experience farm visits and engage with the local community – join the celebrations this year on 8th June 2014 – order your resources here http://openfarmsunday.ahdb.org.uk
