Monitor late-sown spring cereals

AHDB Aphid News: information from bulletin week (28/4-4/5 2014)

Aphid flight activity has increased this week with many species appearing earlier than average.

Numbers of the main cereal aphids remain low and below spray threshold levels.

As grain aphid is noticeably early this year, growers should continue to monitor late-sown spring cereals because these are at a higher risk from Barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) primary infection by aphids.

Peach–potato aphid was caught at eight sites this week, with a particular hotspot at Broom’s Barn suction trap in Suffolk.
