Consequences of intensive fungicide use or integrated disease management for fungicide resistance and sustainable control
Disease / 3800 / Published: 10 September 2013
This project aims to quantify the effect of integrated disease management on selection of fungicide resistant pathogen strains. Specifically, quantify the effect of integrating (i) variety disease resistance and fungicides, (ii) disease forecasting to guide fungicide treatment decisions, and (iii) combining variety disease resistance, forecasting and fungicides.
Assessing the resistance risks associated with systemic fungicide seed treatments and the effectiveness of risk modifiers
Disease / 3801 / Published: 10 September 2013
Field experiments will measure selection for fungicide insensitive pathogen strains in the presence/absence of foliar-acting seed treatments, and with/without risk modifiers.
Investigating components of the oilseed rape light leaf spot epidemic responsible for increased yield loss to the UK arable industry
Disease / 3814 / Published: 19 July 2013
This project aims to develop and validate a novel decision support tool to predict light leaf spot epidemic onset.
Exploring the genetic and mechanistic basis of resistance to Take-all disease in wheat
Disease / 3777 / Published: 29 April 2013
Take-all, caused by the fungus Gaeumannomyces graminis var tritici, is one of the most damaging diseases of wheat and barley in the UK and elsewhere.
Identification and characterisation of Rhynchosporium genes activating barley resistance
Disease / 3773 / Published: 11 March 2013
This project aims to identify candidate triggers of resistance comparing genome sequences of 9 R. commune strains
Occurrence and subsequent expression of two seed-borne diseases in Northern Irelands barley seed stock
Disease / 3685 / Published: 8 November 2012
The project aims to quantify the presence Ramularia collo-cygni and Rhynchosporium secalis in Northern Irelands barley seed stock.
New Fungicide performance information for Barley growers
Disease / 3756 / Published: 8 November 2012
The aim of this project is to determine the performance of barley fungicides against the major foliar diseases; rhynchosporium, powdery mildew, net blotch, brown rust and ramularia.
United Kingdom Cereal Pathogen Virulence Survey (UKCPVS)
Disease / 3751 / Published: 8 November 2012
The project aims to monitor changes in virulence of rust and mildew populations and determine their significance for the resistances that are being used in current varieties and breeding programmes.
Identification and characterisation of azole sensitivity shifts in Irish and UK populations of Mycosphaerella graminicola
Disease / 3713 / Published: 9 August 2012
The project will identify changes to the CYP51 gene targeted by azoles in field populations of Septoria leaf blotch (Mycosphaerella graminicola). Changes in sensitivities of septoria measured in the lab will be linked to specific changes in the target gene and field applications of fungicide treatments. Genotyping of phenotypes showing extreme changes in sensitivity will help establish if alternative resistance mechanisms are evolving and will help explain changes in azole field performance.
Value of resistance genes for controlling Septoria tritici in high-yielding wheat varieties
