Meet the Processor
Open dialogue: mutual understanding
Meet the Processor events (2014) have now finished. HGCA supported a series of grower visits to processing facilities during spring 2014. The aim of the visits was to encourage open dialogue between growers and processors, with the opportunity to understand supply chain requirements for maltsters, millers and feed compounders.
“What these events are all about is getting to know your market,” says Suffolk grower Andrew Blenkiron. “So I view the role HGCA has played in setting the visits up as a fantastic opportunity for farmers to really understand the end market’s requirements.
“Every £1/t in premium, whether a deduction or a gain, is well worth the effort, no matter how many loads you send to the processor.”
The Meet the Processor initiative is supported by nabim (National Association of British and Irish Millers) and MAGB (Maltsters’ Association of Great Britain).
The events included:
- Behind the scenes look at processor operations: a guided tour of the facilities and an opportunity to see grain processing first-hand
- Dialogue between processor and grower: opportunity to ask questions
- Understanding your customer: opportunity to see; the processors investment in their facilities, the impact of grain quality on processing, and the requirements the processors works to meet the end user needs.
