HGCA Recommended Lists (RL) provide information on yield and quality performance, agronomic features and market options for recommended varieties to assist growers with variety selection. HGCA’s research programme aims to deliver ‘sustainable intensification’ for the UK cereals and oilseeds sector, to increase the competitiveness of the UK industry in the face of increasing challenges, such as pest, disease and weed resistance, climate change, legislative pressures, population growth and competition for land use. Creating profitable and sustainable demand for cereals inevitably includes stimulating demand in overseas markets. By growing what the market requires, producers increase their opportunity to receive a premium and maximise returns. BCE is HGCA’s exports team responsible for facilitating trade of cereals as whole grain. This section includes information for growers on this important market. Find out more here

Conference highlights influence of China

GMO2013 - Conference shotThe growing influence of the Chinese was the main theme of the 2013 HGCA Grain Market Outlook Conference.

Four speakers, including AHDB’s Jack Watts gave there take on how grain markets will develop over the coming months. China, and other emerging economies, were the subject of discussion as their import requirements are growing and are affecting grain markets.

Stay in control of Oilseed rape diseases

Oilseed rape diseases

Now is a crucial time for phoma and light leaf spot control in oilseed rape. Risk forecasts for both diseases are available from Rothamsted. More information about the risk forecasts is available here.

The latest fungicide performance information against phoma leaf spot is now ready, more details here.

In line with previous years’ data, the research shows that two sprays of a triazole-based fungicide can achieve good phoma control at full and half dose.
