Overview
“Stewardship of the land is important for the long-term sustainability of crop production. Careful management of land, inputs and outputs is needed to limit the negative consequences of essential food production. As farm systems vary greatly, a unique and tailored approach to stewardship is often called for.”

Focus on: greenhouse gases
Agriculture is under pressure to make a sizeable cut to greenhouse gas emissions. In the arable sector formation of nitrous oxide following fertiliser applications is a major concern which HGCA is looking into. HGCA research has also developed carbon footprint decision support tool for use on-farm with a Grower Guide to help levy payer better understanding of carbon accounting and available mitigation options. Also developed a broad strategy for greenhouse gases – see the Greenhouse Gas Roadmap for more details.
