Weed research
Overview
“Weed management has become an increasing challenge due to changing EU regulations, herbicide resistance and a lack of new control methods. These challenges require research into integrated approaches which use both cultural and chemical control.”

Focus on: BBSRC-HGCA black-grass resistance initiative
Resistance to herbicides in black-grass is a major constraint to cereal production in the UK. Management options to control black-grass based around rotational changes or sowing date are unattractive. Understanding the basis of the evolution and spread of herbicide resistance may provide new management options to combat black-grass and will provide insights that should enable more effective management of new herbicide resistance problems early in their development.
