Nutrient research
Overview
“With rising fertiliser costs, it is becoming increasingly important to target applications and make best use of any organic materials that may be available locally. HGCA’s programme of applied crop nutrition research aims to continuously update and build upon existing national guidance while providing farmers and agronomists with the information necessary on-farm.”
Dr James Homes – Research and KT Manager
Focus on: phosphate
Phosphate use has declined in the UK over the past 30 years. However, phosphorus is an essential plant nutrient and it must be managed well to ensure optimum crop yields and quality can be achieved. HGCA funded research is providing information on how to manage levels of soil P and how to make best use of different sources of P.
